How I work

Jennifer Davis

PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR

Individual therapy

I work with individual adults and young people (17+), providing face to face psychotherapeutic counselling, from my discreet and confidential private practice in the centre of Sudbury.

My approach

My style of working is to pay particular attention to you, the individual - what brings you to counselling; and what you might hope for from our meetings. In this way, your needs and process will form the central thread of our work together.

I bring many qualities to the sessions including integrity, warmth, confidentiality, empathy, and the ability to listen and to support people to feel relaxed and comfortable. My experience in life and in counselling is rich and varied. I draw on this experience to inform the counselling process and facilitate growth.

My approach integrates many different schools of therapy (some of which are outlined below) but is based in compassion; both for self and others.

My work is:

  • Person-centred, in that your needs and process forms the central thread of all the work
  • Psycho-dynamic, in taking seriously the way that formative past experiences influence our make-up
  • Cognitive, in considering and updating how you think about and construe your world
  • Existential, in acknowleding the key questions about life and death
  • Transpersonal and holistic, in recognising that we are all an essential part of a larger whole and that our problems themselves may be the doorway into a wider and more enriching life
  • Relational, in considering how we impact one another and how you relate to people in other parts of your life

My training

In 2013 I began my 4-year training in Integrative Psychosynthesis at the ReVision Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy in North London - a training strongly influenced by Jungian therapy, with its place for the soulful and the imaginative.

My training also draws on Psychodynamic approaches, which explore how our early experiences shape us, and the humanistic perspective, which emphasises the here and now and the importance of authentic and respectful relating between counsellor and client.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

I knew I needed help when I came to see you. You have made me so much stronger. I know perhaps ‘Black Days’ can come back but I will think of our time together and say “Yes, I will do it my way”. I have already started – Wow!
